Sharon's Story
She's always been independent. Bay Area Meals on Wheels makes it possible for her to stay that way.
Sharon Reid-Carney has always been an independent person. Today, that independence looks like staying in her own home — something she knows would not be possible without Bay Area Meals on Wheels.
Before receiving meal deliveries, Sharon's days were difficult and uncertain. She is unable to get out on her own and now leaves home only for doctor appointments. About once a month, her daughter, who lives nearly an hour and a half away, is able to take her grocery shopping.
Sharon wishes she could give back financially to Bay Area Meals on Wheels, but living on a fixed income makes that impossible. Still, the mission is close to her heart. Years ago, before moving to Texas, Sharon volunteered with the Area Agency on Aging in Ohio, supporting older adults in need — just as she is supported today.
Beyond the meals, Sharon values the kindness of the volunteers who deliver them. Small acts — like taking out her trash or mailing letters — mean more than she can put into words. For Sharon, Bay Area Meals on Wheels provides more than food. It provides dignity, compassion, and the ability to continue living independently in the place she calls home.

In their own words
To be honest, a typical day before receiving Meals on Wheels was a struggle. I was really sick.
