Your questions, answered
How long does a route take?
Most routes take 2 to 2½ hours from pickup to return. The exact time depends on the number of stops and traffic, but we design routes to fit within a weekday morning.
Do I need to know the area?
No. Every route comes with a printed delivery list with addresses and any special instructions. If you can follow turn-by-turn directions, you can do this.
What if I can't make my route?
Life happens. Let your volunteer coordinator know as early as possible — ideally the evening before — and we'll arrange a substitute driver. We don't expect perfection, just a heads-up.
Is a background check required?
Not at this time. However, all drivers must be willing to undergo a background check if we require one in the future — we ask for consent during the driver application so there are no surprises down the road. Navigators, who ride along without driving, are not subject to background check requirements.
Do I need a car to volunteer?
No. If you don't have a suitable vehicle or prefer not to drive, you can volunteer as a navigator — riding alongside a driver, handling the door, and connecting with clients on the route. Visit the Become a Navigator page to learn more and apply.
