Frequently asked questions

Everything you're wondering before you reach out.

Your questions, answered

Is there a cost for meals?

Our service is free regardless of income. A voluntary donation is always welcome, but never required.

Who is eligible to receive meals?

Anyone who is homebound or unable to prepare a hot meal on their own — due to age, illness, recovery, or disability — and who lives within our service area in South Harris or North Galveston County. There is no age or income requirement.

What days and times are meals delivered?

We deliver Monday through Friday, between 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM — year-round, including holidays.

What is included in the hot meal?

A nutritionally balanced hot lunch, packaged in heat-retaining containers and delivered to your door by one of our volunteers.

Is a light lunch available?

A separately prepared light lunch — typically a sandwich and fruit — is available on request when your health and dietary needs allow. Eligibility for specific items varies; for example, clients managing conditions like diabetes may not be able to receive a sandwich due to the carbohydrates in bread. Your coordinator can confirm what is appropriate for you.

Can I get food for the weekend?

Yes. Two frozen meals are available on request and are delivered on Fridays alongside your regular meal, so you have food on hand over the weekend.

How do I apply?

Fill out the meal request form on our website or give us a call. Most applicants hear back within a few business days, and we'll schedule a brief in-home visit to confirm eligibility before meals begin.

What area do you deliver to?

We serve South Harris and North Galveston counties. You can check whether your address falls in our delivery zone on the service area page.

What is the Freeman Library Program?

In partnership with Freeman Library, clients can receive books, magazines, CDs, crossword puzzles, and craft projects — delivered monthly with your meals by our drivers, and returned to our office when you are ready.
