Get Involved
A morning of your time. A neighbor's whole day.
For many of the people we serve, you won't just be delivering a meal. You'll be the only person who knocked on their door today. That matters more than you'd think.
What you'll actually experience
Most new volunteers expect to feel useful. What they don't expect is how quickly it becomes personal. You'll learn your clients' names. You'll notice when something's off. You'll find yourself genuinely looking forward to that one house where someone always has a funny story ready.
Routes run Monday through Friday. Most take 2 to 2½ hours — a few stops, a few conversations, and you're done by 12:30. You don't need experience, and you don't need to know the area. You need a car, a license, and a willingness to show up for someone who's counting on you.
The Route
What a delivery day looks like
- Arrive at the staging area
Pick up your insulated meal bags at Gloria Dei Lutheran at 10:00 AM.
- Follow your printed route
Each route has 8–12 stops, all within your neighborhood. A list with addresses and any client notes guides each delivery.
- Knock, greet, deliver
Hand off the meal, say hello, check in. For many clients this is the highlight of their day — and often yours too.
- Done by 12:30
Most routes wrap up between 12:00 and 12:30 PM. Return the bags and you're free for the rest of the day.
In their own words
I've been driving the same route for three years. My clients wave from the window when they see my car pull up. That's not nothing — that's everything.
