Shaun's Story

He's diabetic and lives on a fixed income. Bay Area Meals on Wheels makes sure he has nutritious food — and reminds him that someone cares.

Shaun Springer with a Bay Area Meals on Wheels volunteer

Shaun Springer has been a client of Bay Area Meals on Wheels for six months, and he describes himself as "extremely grateful" for everything the organization provides. Living with a disability, Shaun relies on a fixed income. His only way to get to the grocery store is by using Uber — an expense that can quickly consume a significant portion of his monthly budget.

The meals Shaun receives are especially important because he is diabetic. He appreciates knowing that the food delivered to his home is nutritionally balanced and supports his health. While the meals themselves make a meaningful difference, Shaun says they are only part of what Bay Area Meals on Wheels provides.

What stands out most to Shaun is the care shown by the volunteers. He was also deeply moved when meals were delivered on Christmas Day.

"My life would be a lot different without Bay Area Meals on Wheels. I'm just so grateful to see the smiling faces of the volunteers. Thank you for everything."

In their own words

They remembered my birthday and even made me a quilt. I couldn't believe they delivered to me on Christmas Day.
